COUNTY U18’s UNDEFEATED

The County U18 Boys finished their 2023 Midland League campaign with matches against reigning England County Champions Leicestershire on 26 July and then against a strong Lincolnshire team on 28 July.

The match V Leicestershire was played at Kirby Muxloe GC in great weather with the course in super condition. Our boys struggled a bit in the morning foursomes and at lunch found themselves 3-1 down. However, led by Team Captain Jacob Mitchell, the County boys were more than a match for their opponent in the afternoon singles and ran out 6-2 winners to give a great match score of 7-5 in our favour.

We then moved to Karsten Lakes GC in Gainsborough for the final match against the only team that could stop us having an overall league win. The course was long and a bit wet after the recent rain but our boys were not daunted. The morning foursomes were tight affairs with no match going past the 15th hole – it ended 2-2. In the afternoon out boys came to the fore again and ran out 5.5-2.5 winners – with great performances from all – a 7.5-4.5 was nothing more than they deserved.

Onwards now to the MGU U18 Playoff Final against either Derbyshire or S&H on Sun 1 Oct at Whitefield GC, Rugby
