STROKEPLAY & OPEN CHAMPIONS

WILLEY CAPTURES THE NOTTS OPEN and RYAN CAPTURES THE NOTTS AMATEUR

The County Amateur and Open championship took place at the beautifully presented Wollaton Park Golf Club on Saturday 27th May.

This is the Counties blue riband event and it attracted an entry of 75 players (a record), whilst the main event is the amateur, the players also play for the open trophy, included in the field are 6 professionals from around the county, who compete for the open trophy only.

In addition to the main trophies there is also a Youths Championship, open to anyone up to the age of 21, and the Team Trophy, which the club with the leading 3 scores qualifies for the Champion club tournament at the end of the year.

The morning round got under way with starter Geoff Richmond, Wollaton Park attached professional Lee Clarke leading the way.

Leading at the half way stage in the amateur was Jack Sallis from Hollinwell who shot a 68 sitting in 2nd place was Killian Ryan from Hollinwell who shot 69.

In 3rd spot was George Cordall from Worksop GC who shot 70.

Moving on to the afternoon round, the early pacesetter was Killian Ryan who shot 68, there were some fine scores produced in the afternoon, the winner of the Amateur championship was Killian Ryan from Hollinwell with scores of

 69 + 68 = 137 winning by 2 – 68+ 71 +139 Jack Sallis from Hollinwell, in 3rd place was Ross Overton from Sherwood Forest GC who shot 72 + 68 = 140.

Best morning round went to Matt Hogg 70 from Rushcliffe GC and best PM round was Cole Betteridge from Sherwood Forest GC with a 67.

Moving on to the Open championship, the winner and top 3 places were as follows.

1st Andy Willey 67+67 = 134 from Oakmere Park GC (Professional)

2nd Killian Ryan 69 + 68 = 137 from Hollinwell (Amateur)

3rd Jack Sallis 68 + 71 = 139 from Hollinwell (Amateur)

The winner of the Youths Trophy was George Cordall from Worksop GC who shot rounds of 70 + 70 = 140

The team trophy was won by Hollinwell, represented by Jack Sallis, Killian Ryan and Cameron Steedman they now go on to represent Nottinghamshire at the champion club tournament later in the season.

Special thanks must go to Wollaton Park, who presented the course in stunning condition, thanks go to Martin Scothern and his team, we were also looked after equally as well in the clubhouse, by Richie and the staff and special thanks to the pro Martin Brown, manager Steve Sayers and June in the office, must also be applauded for their help.

Wollaton is the county course this year and on both days, we have visited so far, we could not have asked for more.
