The annual matchplay tournament against teams from Lancashire, Cheshire and Shropshire & Herefordshire took place at Formby GC on 10-11 April.

The weather on the morning of the first day took its toll on everyone and our boys struggled against a very good S&H team who eventually ran out 6.5 to 0.5 winners.

In the afternoon with the weather improving, or boys played extremely well but again came up against the overall winners Cheshire and lost 5-2. There were excellent wins for our Captain Will Burbidge and Vice Captain Callum Smith.

The final day saw blue skys and warm weather and a match against a top Lancashire team. Many of the matches were very tight – there were halves for Theo Nelson and Callum Smith and an excellent win for Owen Rafferty in a 5-2 loss.

Our boys were a credit to themselves, their Clubs and their parents and a number of official from other Counties remarked on how courteous and polite they were – that is worth more than any win.

My grateful thanks to all County officials and parents who were able to come and support the boys.

Onwards to 2025 at Wallasey GC
