FIRST TEAM MATCH REPORT

Notts 12 Hereford/Shropshire 3

So to the beautiful setting and golf course that is Hollingwell, the course was in excellent condition but fiery fairways made it interesting at times but that said the greens were very receptive and good golf was rewarded.

As captain I felt after the result against Warwickshire that had given us a great boost but, I also felt that it made us vulnerable mentally, over confidence could make us take our eye off the ball, that said I reminded the guys of this and as they have done all season listened, took what I had said on board, and went onto the course totally focused and as you can see from the result, they totally dominated the day.

So to the morning foursomes, again the pairings looked so balanced and the guys looked confident, this group have realised how important it is to gain an advantage for the afternoon, so a 4-1 morning result is just what we needed.

Great results for Jordan/Jack , Cole/Fred, Mark/Ashley and Killian/Jake, with Mike and Jacob just missing out on a clean sweep.

Singles in the afternoon was about getting the win wrapped up early, then pushing hard to improve our matches won ratio against Warwickshire which, after this result made it 9. Jordan, Mike Cole, Killian, Fred, Mark, Jake and Jack all got wins, a lot of those were convincing.

I can not speak highly enough of all the guys who have played for me this year, they represent our county with distinction which is as important as the wins they are getting, but that said these guys are very talented and have become a tight knit squad, that embrace’s any new faces who join them in there pursuit of winning the league title.

It was great to have available Jake ‘’the silent assassin’’ Benson‘ his presence gave the guys a boost. I would like to thank Killian and Fred who have now gone back to America for there contributions, you guys have been fantastic and with your help have put the team in a strong position in the league.

So to our last match, this is against Staffordshire away, a win would almost guarantee us the league title, but that said we have an extremely hard test ahead of us, if our attitude is not spot on. If we don’t respect our opponents and we lose focus, this opportunity will pass us by. Its about having the right attitude!!, but that said, I can not fault the guys attitude this season and I am excited as I think all the guys are, at this opportunity to bring the midland league title back to Nottinghamshire after an absence of over 12 years!!
