EG Senior County Championships (Team of Six) – Midland Qualifying report

Five of six scores would count each day, with the winning County going forward to the national stages of the competition.

The Notts team of six, consisted of C Banks (Stanton on the Wolds) – T Clarke (Hollinwell) – Andy Cook (Hollinwell) – D McJannett (Coxmoor) – I Newlove (Wollaton Park) and C Powell (Sherwood). Our reserve was S Hogg (Rushcliffe).

Nine other Counties (54 players) made up the field of 60.

The weather was not kind to all, as it was 30 deg C on both days.

Ist Round.

Best score for Notts was Ian Newlove with an opening round of 70, which was the lowest score of the day.

The leaders were Warwickshire after day one, with Notts lying in 5th place.

2nd Round.

The team went out to close the gap to the leaders, but only Charles Banks managed to better his score in the 1st Round with a 75.

Notts finished in 8th place with a combined team score of + 75 whilst the winners, Warwickshire, came in with an excellent team score of +36 over the two rounds.

Before signing off, I must thank Mandy Bee for arranging the hotel, food and dealing with competition paperwork, together with Immediate Past President Edgar for once again supporting the team over the two days.
