County Captain Report
Venue Overstone park Northamptonshire.
The E/G county championship midlands qualifying is 5 out of 6 score’s to count. It started for us on Thursday afternoons practice round, the resort course was a fairly open layout with extremely fiery fairways and softish greens. The greens had a good amount of underlation to protect them. The practice round went well, we were well prepared for the Friday qualifying. The weather on Saturday was hot with a healthy breeze. In the morning we were jostling for positions and we ended up placed third after the morning rounds on 1 over combined,this was thanks to Jack sallis plus one, Fred tindale plus one, Jordon Boulton plus two. The standout knocks in the morning were from Matt Hogg minus one, Cole Betteridge minus two. Going into the afternoon rounds we were 6 shots off the lead which was Derbyshire closely followed by Warwickshire, which in this format is nothing. Going into the afternoon the wind had picked up considerably which made for tougher conditions, Cole shot 2 over, Matt shot 1 over and Mark 3 over. The best of the afternoon rounds for us were, Jack sallis minus 1 Fred Tindale minus 2, but Unfortunately these scores amounted to us finishing overall on plus 4. Warwickshire finished second on level par and the deserved winners were Derbyshire on minus 2. Our top 5 players on the day were, Cole level par, Matt level par, Jack level par, Jordon plus 6, Fred minus 1. Fred came 7 th individually overall, well done Fred, Jack 12th Matt 14 th and Cole 15 th out of 60 players. So much was learned on the day, the guys were extremely disappointed , the disappointment will hold us in good stead for next years qualifying. Regards Malcolm Brown County Captain
