Worcestershire 9 Notts 6

Well it had to come I suppose, the first defeat under my guidance of the first team and it hurts. We all know coming here to Hagley against a talented Worcestershire side was going to be tough and it turned out to be a little bit to tough. A tight firm parkland course not long but tight, with small greens tricky run offs and fringes, this course demanded position off the tee and precise approach shots otherwise we were struggling to make par. In the morning foursomes we went with two new pairings in the shape of Liam Taylor George Cordall and Mitch Newton Matt Hogg, they had mixed fortunes Mitch/Matt losing 3/2 and George/ Liam winning 5/4, Cole/Deano won 4/2 Mark/Ashley won 3/2 as well, Jacob/ Mike lost a tight match 2 down. During the morning foursomes we did really well to come out with a 3-2 advantage because, at one point we were looking at a loss of 4-1 so , credit to the boys for digging in and turning it round. Afternoon singles, we now had an idea how to get the ball around this golf course but like I said at the start we needed to hit fairways, unfortunately we didn’t hit enough and that combined with the opposition playing well and throwing clusters of birdies at us, made it an impossible task. A lot of matches up front went down early and in the end we lost the first 5 matches in the shape of Mike Mitch Ashley Jacob and Liam, Matt won his match 2/1 but he was always in control, then we had gorgeous George running away with his match 6/4, well done George it’s good to have you back amongst us again! Mark Porter wasn’t his usual self, he went down early and couldnt reel his man back in, and eventually lost 5/4, Cole squeezed a 2/1 win and Deano out last lost 5/4. We now move on to Derbyshire away at chapel le firth, even though we lost this one we still have our destiny in our own hands so , still a lot to play for, we will learn from this defeat and I know from the character I have seen from the boys we will bounce back.
