CYRIL SELLICK MEMORIAL TROPHY REPORT
The NUGC Junior Championships got under way for 2019 with the Cyril Sellick Trophy taking place at Rufford Park Golf and Country Club. We had a strong field of 56 players, the best it has been for some years. The Cyril Sellick is one of the oldest trophies the County play for starting back in 1913.
Rufford Park should be congratulated for presenting the golf course in superb condition; players were very complimentary about its playability despite it being a difficult and cold day.
The main event is a Handicap competition, there were some great scores returned and huge congratulations to Oliver Parry from Chilwell Manor Golf club who shot a one over par Gross 71 off 8 handicap and Nett 63 to take the top prize, but only winning on a back nine count back from Jamie Whitmore from Oakmere Golf Club, also shooting Nett 63. In 3rd spot in the Handicap event went to local player Ethan Wan who closed with a Nett 64, great scoring and well done to all.
The event also features Scratch prizes, top prize went to Finn Nelson from Sherwood Forest Golf club with a Gross 73, in 2nd place was Nathan Fox from Oakmere Park who shot 74 and in 3rd place was Sam Allen from Notts Golf club with a 75 Gross.
The County are eternally grateful to the Clubs that host County events and again a massive thanks to everyone involved at Rufford who made us feel very welcome.
The next event on the Junior calendar is the Jack Prescott Junior Open which is being played at Chilwell Manor Golf Club on Sunday 26th May. We encourage all juniors to enter in honour of Jack Prescott who passed away in 2018 whilst still in office as U18’s manager. Let’s try and make this a big field of players so Jack would be proud.
