COUNTY SECOND TEAM MATCH REPORT
Feeling confident due to a long unbeaten run spanning nearly a year, the team set off very early on a long drive to Stratford-upon-Avon GC. The venue was fantastic- a course with fairway irrigation just proved how great a course can cope with hot conditions all summer, with a bit of water available. Possibly the best condition many of us had seen in 2018.
Another strong foursomes performance left Notts 3-2 in front at lunch with 2 wins and 2 gritty halves in the latter matches. Credit to the who team in its gradual improvements around foursomes golf over last couple of years. Malcom Brown & Sam Horsley I think were 4 down with 6 to play and were not far off clenching a win, never mind a well-earned half.
That said however, Warwickshire dug in and fought back with a singles performance that was potent and convincing. It seemed the Notts team as a whole, ran out of steam in the afternoon. A very early morning and 4 hours driving in same day 200 miles round trip, for most/all the team was felt the main factor here. A great shame as the unbeaten record falls - as they say - all good things come to an end.
The focus now turns to the final 2018 game at Worksop GC, a familiar course to most of the team. A great chance for a strong conclusive finish, as we contend with several teams for a league win.
