BOY'S CHAMPIONSHIP REPORT AND RESULTS
A disappointing field of only twenty players competed on the Signature course on a very humid warm sunny day. However, the quality of golf by the players was very high.
After the morning round last year’s champion, Oscar Bartram (Notts), was leading with a gross 67 (-4) followed by Killian Ryan (Coxmoor) on 68 and Sam Allen (Notts) on 69. With these three boys all playing together it was all to play for in the afternoon round.
Three early birdies saw Sam take a one-shot lead over Oscar and Killian and after nine holes and a further two birdies by Sam there was still only one-shot separating Sam and Oscar. A double on 12 by Oscar gave Sam some breathing space and despite a late comeback by Oscar, Sam held on to shoot a fine 67 and six under total of 136 to win the Championship by one shot with Killian a further two shots back in third place.
Well done to Sam, our new Under 18 Champion, and to Oscar who secured the U16 trophy for the second year running.
The Boys Handicap Championship was also played on the same day over one round on the Signature course. And this competition also produced some good scores. Maxwell Pickford (Notts) set the target with a great nett score of 59 only for Matthew Fox (Norwood Park) to return a fantastic nett score of 58 to take the Handicap Championship by one shot. Lennon Albans finished in third place with a nett 64.
Congratulations to Matthew Fox our new County Handicap Champion
A big thank you again to The Nottinghamshire for being great hosts and to Colin Brown who did a magnificent job starting both Championships.
