SENIORS MATCH PLAY REPORT
Seniors golf in Nottinghamshire goes from strength to strength and this proves so at the weekend. The top match in the 1st round was between County Seniors Champions Chris Powell and County Seniors Captain Neil Martin. A real tight match all the way through, all square playing the last hole, Powell was in tight looking certain to make a birdie when Martin chipped in for an eagle to leave Powell speechless.
The 2nd and 3rd matches both went to extra holes, Gary Shepherd (Wollaton Park) making his seniors debut this year, despite looking a lot older than his 55 years suggest, lost on the 1st extra hole to fellow club mate Glenn Sherwood. The same fate went to Worksop Stuart Pond who lost on the 1st extra hole to Coxmoor Derek McJannet, other 1st round victors were James MacLachlan (Notts), Steve Shore (SOTW), Charles Banks (SOTW), Andy Durbin (Notts) and Kevin Vamplew (SOTW).
The quarter finals saw MacLachlan beat Martin, Sherwood beat McJannet, Banks prevail on the 19th against the ever-impressive Shore who fought back from 2 down and Durbin beat Vamplew.
In the semi-finals Sherwood beat MacLachlan 4&3 and Banks beat Durbin on the 20th hole.
The final was again played to a high standard and Glenn Sherwood beat Banks by 3&2.
