MEN'S PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP REPORT
I begin my report by thanking Coxmoor Golf Club for allowing us to host the County Pairs Championship, the course was presented to a very high standard as it has been all season, thanks must go to the head green keeper and his team.
The event attracted 56 pairs and the field contained a mixture of some of our best players in the county along with a full range of handicaps, the whole idea of this event was to open it up to all standards and yesterday proved that point. As well as the main scratch prizes there are trophies and prizes for the top 3 nett scores as well.
Early pacesetters in the gross were Mike Faulkner and his partner Oliver Burton who were leading for most of the day with a 69 better ball gross, but with some of our best players in the county playing later on it was inevitable that it would be overhauled, playing together Coxmoor brothers Mitchell & Cater Newton produced a fine 67 gross (6 under) only to be overhauled by their playing partners Ashley Norwood & Ben West both from Coxmoor who produced a flawless 65 better ball gross to take the top spot, Faulkner & Burton did manage however to hang to third place with a better back nine than that of Brett Marsden & Darren Kirton who along with veteran’s James Maclahlan & Andy Cook who all shot 69.
The handicap event produced some great scoring and one unbelievable score Andrew Davidson and his playing partner Richard Devine from Oakmere Park and Radcliffe on Trent shot a magnificent nett 60, this won by 4 shots from former Nottingham Forest footballer Nigel Jemson from Springwater and his playing partner Keith Whalley from Hollinwell who did a nett 64, in third place were Rushcliffe pair of James Charlton & Shane Litchfield who 66 net saw them triumph with a better back 9 than the other net 66 scores.
Overall a great day at Coxmoor, enjoyed by all the players.
