COUNTY BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP
The Championship consists of two events a 36-hole scratch and an 18 hole handicap event.
The 18-hole Handicap Event was a tightly fought affair, the scoring was difficult despite the course being in excellent condition. In third place was the ever-improving Kai Saville (Notts GC) who carded a Nett 74 off 10 HcP. In second spot also from Notts GC was Joseph Bartram with a Nett 73 off 13 HcP.
The winning player in his first County event having recently moved down from Scotland was Riley Porterfield from Ruddington Grange GC who shot a marvellous Nett 71 off 17 Hcp- Welcome to the County and big well done.
Moving onto the main event County stalwarts Oscar Bartram (Notts GC) and Sam Allen (Notts GC) led at halfway stage with 1 under par 70s, in 3rd place at the halfway stage was Louis Palmer (Retford GC) on 75 Gross.
The heat certainly played its part in the afternoon, concentration was needed, first round leading Bartram and Allen shot 74 and 72 respectively, this gave Allen his 2nd consecutive Championship and he will represent Nottinghamshire in both the English Champion of Champions and the Midland Champion of Champions. Runner up was Oscar Bartram (Notts GC) and in 3rd place was Fraser Youens (Oakmere Park GC) with 76 + 77 = 153.
We also run an U16 Championship and an U14 Championship; the winners were U14 – Lennon Albans (The Nottinghamshire GC) with a score of 85 +85 =170 and U16 winner – George Cordall (Worksop GC) with scores of 79+71 = 150. They now go on to represent Nottinghamshire in the Midland Champion of Champions.
Again, great thanks to Beeston Fields who proved great hosts and were particularly helpful in re- arranging the Championship due to the weather.
It was also decided the match play Championship would not take place due to many factors.
