Inter Club Foursomes - Men
RULES GOVERNING PLAY - REVISED 2010
01: An Inter Club Mens Foursomes competition shall be held annually for which each golf club affiliated to the Nottinghamshire Union of Golf Clubs may enter one [1] team comprising two [2] pairs of players.
02: The entry fee for the tournament shall be thirty pounds [£ 30.00] per golf club.
03: Opponents for each match will be determined for each round by a random draw, and each match will be played over a neutral venue decided by the Nottinghamshire Union of Golf Clubs Tournament Committee, from participating clubs remaining in the competition.
04: The competition shall be played on, or around, the dates selected by the Tournament Committee of the Nottinghamshire Union of Golf Clubs.
05: Matches will commence play at 4.00 p.m. on the day appointed for the match. The starting times for matches may be varied by the agreement of both team captains. With the agreement of the team captains and of the Tournament Committee of the Nottinghamshire Union of Golf Clubs, matches may be arranged to be played within three [3] days either side of the appointed date of the match, including weekends.
06: The competition will be decided by match play, over eighteen [18] holes, under handicap, in accordance with Rule 2 of the Rules of Golf, as approved by the Royal and Ancient Rules Limited, and the golf club having holes to its credit on the combined result of the two [2] matches shall be the winner. Matches must be played to a finish.
07: The maximum playing handicap of competitors shall not exceed twelve [12].
08: The handicap allowance shall be half [1/2] of the difference of the combined playing handicaps, taken from the players with the lowest combined playing handicap.
09: In the event of a tie after eighteen [18] holes, three [3] extra holes will be played by each couple, and the golf club having won the greater number of holes will be the winner.
10: If a result is not forthcoming after exhausting the tie-breaking procedure as laid down in 09] above, then the tie must be replayed over eighteen [18] holes, on a date arranged by mutual agreement, but within 14 days of the next round of the tournament. If the event that the replayed match remains tied, and after following the procedure, as laid down in 09] above, the team captains may agree to obtain a result by each couple playing ‘sudden death’.
11: Team captains shall exchange a written list of players, including accurate playing handicaps, together with the order of play, prior to commencement of play.
12: A golf club may make changes to its team for any, or all, of the rounds of the competition providing the players substituted comply with the rules of the competition.
13: In order to be eligible to represent a golf club a player must have been a member of that golf club from the 1st January in the year of the competition, and must be of amateur status as defined by the Rules of Amateur Status as approved by the Royal and Ancient Rules Limited.
14: Competitors may only represent one [1] golf club during the calendar year of the competition.
15: In the event that a member of a team is not present to commence play at his appointed time he shall be subject to a penalty in accordance with Rule 6 - 3 / Rule 33 - 7 of the Rules of Golf as approved by the Royal and Ancient Rules Limited.
16: Players may be substituted by the team captain in any of the individual games, at any time up to 15 minutes prior to the commencement of play. The substituted player must play in the position vacated by the player being substituted, and must comply with all the other rules of the competition. The opposing team captain must be made aware of any such substitution prior to the substitution taking place.
17: In the event of a match not commencing due to a team failing to report for play on the appointed day, then the offending team shall be disqualified.
18: In the event of a match being postponed due to inclement weather or bad light, the match shall be replayed as soon as practically possible. The Tournament Committee of the Nottinghamshire Union of Golf Clubs must be informed of any such decision as soon as practically possible.
19: All disputes, including the fitness of the course for play, shall be settled by the team captains who should endeavour to reach agreement. In the event that agreement cannot be reached then play shall be suspended and the matter referred to the Tournament Committee for a decision.
20: The semi-final rounds will be held over a neutral course arranged by the Tournament Committee of the Nottinghamshire Union of Golf Clubs.
21: The date for the final round shall be fixed by the Nottinghamshire Union of Golf Clubs and shall be played over thirty six [36] holes over the golf course chosen for the County Championships of the year, unless the team over whose course the Championship is to be played shall be one of the finalists. In such cases the Tournament Committee of the Nottinghamshire Union of Golf Clubs shall select a neutral golf course to be used for the final.
22: A Challenge Cup will be presented annually to the winning team, and individual prizes/vouchers will be presented to members of the winning team and the runners-up.
23: The use of motorised ride-on golf carts by competitors is strictly prohibited, unless they are required on medical grounds and are supported by a medical certificate, and only providing the Club allows the use of motorised ride-on golf carts.
24: Conforming golf balls: the ball the player plays must be named on the current list of Conforming Golf Balls issued by the R & A Rules Limited. Penalty for breach of the condition: Disqualification.
25: Conforming golf clubs: Driving clubs must not have a characteristic time greater than 257 microseconds when measured on pendulum testing apparatus approved by the R & A Rules Limited. See Appendix II, 5a of the Rules of Golf. Penalty for breach of the condition:Disqualification.
26: Players are permitted the use of a distance measuring device for the purpose of measuring distance only. Artificial devices or unusual equipment designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect the play of a competitor [e.g. gradient, windspeed, temperature, etc.] is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used.
26: All matches shall be governed in accordance with the Rules of Golf as approved by the Royal and Ancient Rules Limited, and the local rules of the golf course over which the match is to be played, providing such local rules do not contradict the Rules and Conditions governing play as detailed above.
27: It is the duty of the captain of the winning team to notify the match result to:

NB: A light rmeal [e.g. lasagne, jacket potato and filling, sandwiches and chips, etc.] for up to twelve [12] persons, will be provided at the expense of the host golf club following the conclusion of each match.
