BULWELL FOREST GOLF CLUB
[Founded 1902] |
Golf was first played in Nottinghamshire on common land at Bulwell more than a century ago, on the land on which the Bulwell Forest Golf Club now stands. The Bulwell Forest Golf Club celebrated its centenary in 2002. Until recently it was a municipal club, but in 2005 the Club negotiated a lease on the land and the County's most historic course was protected.
There are now 35 golf clubs affiliated to the Nottinghamshire Union of golf clubs, the most recent being the Riverside Golf Centre in Nottingham, and the Misterton Golf Club near Retford, both clubs joining in 2007. Fourteen are private members clubs, the remainder are made up of municipal and commercial golf clubs, which are open to the public on a 'pay and play' basis, with many of them being formed during more recent times as the sport grew in popularity.
